‘Cause sometimes, it’s better hot

I’ve hit a rough patch in my writing, and since I haven’t updated this thing in a while, I figured I’d sneak in a post. I’ll make it short and sweet 🙂 Yesterday was a pretty full day for me. In between attending my friend’s wedding reception in Tagaytay and meeting my high school friends for dinner and drinks, I needed a special hit to liven me up a bit — especially since I’d only had roughly two and a half hours’ worth of sleep. So even though I’d already had my allotted half cup of coffee for the day, I indulged in some UCC lovin’ while waiting for my friends to arrive in Eastwood. Like most people, I have several “go-to” drinks in my favorite coffee places. You might know about my UCC Kori Kohi fixation, but before that was introduced, there was the iced white chocolate mocha. Starbucks has a pretty good version of it, but UCC takes the lead in terms of hitting that perfect balance between creamy goodness and caffeine kick. I’ve …

SIEM-ply amazing: REAP-ing adventure in Cambodia

There are places that leave you in awe of God’s power and majesty — like the Grand Canyon in Arizona, USA. Then there are those that leave you marveling at man’s vision, inspiration and determination. Angkor Wat is one of those places. If you had told me a week ago that I’d fall in love with a place that’s even hotter and a WHOLE LOT dustier than my beloved hometown, I would’ve called you crazy. I did just that, though — I lost a piece of my heart to Siem Reap. The ironic thing is that I consider myself a city girl. I love the convenience of one-stop shops like malls and massive grocery stores (don’t forget the ever-important A/C), the dependability of having a Starbucks or McDonalds (or both) around the corner, the quick transportation that the MRT offers. Siem Reap doesn’t really have those. The only mall I saw was Lucky Mall (we did most of our shopping at the night markets and local convenience stores); the closest thing to McDo was one …

Of Train Rides and Facepalm Moments

This is a story about regrets.  I’m sure most everyone would love to say that they lived their lives without ’em. Seriously though, can anyone really be one hundred percent honest and certain about that? Regrets can encompass the simple action of being rude to someone important to you, or the major decision of what career path to take.  Let me tell you about one of my greatest regrets in life. Train guy.

When Officemates Are More Than Just People You Work With

Here’s an entry from my Tumblr account that I wanted to share with you guys. I wrote it for my officemates, roughly three weeks after my last day at work.   14 August 2012, 4:51 PM Let me start off by saying, unequivocally, that never in my life did I imagine I’d work in sales. EVER. Back in grade school, I remember sitting quietly at my desk, appearing to be involved in my textbook when I actually had a paperback hidden inside it. Later on in high school, the reason for my silence would be that I’d be sleeping on crossed arms laid on the table. A teacher or two had called me out for that more than once, but I always reasoned that it was better to be asleep than to be participating in the ruckus of the rest of my class. And so the trend continued all the way through college, where it became worse due to the long hours spent working on plates. Suffice it to say, everyone probably expected me to go …
