Q&A with Calvyn Grandling and Noxolo Dlamini + Musical Review: THE LION KING in Manila

by Marian Bartolome

The Lion King is part of my childhood soundtrack, and its stage adaptation has long been on my list of must-see Broadway musicals. So when I heard that Manila would be their first stop in this year's international tour, there was no way I could miss it. Luckily, I didn't just get to see the show, I was also invited to an exclusive lunch...

Traveled all the way to Bohol to see them green hills⛰⛰⛰
30. Just like that, I’ve begun a new decade of my life. I wish I could say I welcomed thirty with the nonchalant grace of a bonafide adult. To the contrary, I felt I was dragged into it, all the while kicking and crying like a child. In the days leading up to the big three-oh, I grieved the looming loss of my twenties and the unfulfilled possibilities they represented. I hadn’t done enough, hadn’t achieved enough. Shouldn’t I have figured things out by now? Shouldn’t I be more? Yet there I was—unemployed, running out of savings, and sans a finished novel to my name. I wasn’t—am still not—ready to be thirty. Then again, I’m rarely ready for major life changes. And for someone who couldn't see past college, thirty is a whopper. This year, my birthday fell on Black Saturday, a day of mourning. It was, to me, another reason to dread thirty. But a good friend reminded me that it was also the day right before Easter, our ultimate celebration of life and new beginnings. Those holy days took on another meaning to me this year. Yes, there was the death of my twenties. But my story doesn't stop there. In many ways, I feel like I'm starting over. It's scary, yet the rational part of me knows that all my uncertainties come with new possibilities and more opportunities to fulfil them. Every day, I wake up to a new chance to live more and do more and love more. So, hello, thirty. I might not be ready, but I've got the best support system by my side. Truly (hashtag-)blessed. 📷: @vincentjamestio

“Excuse me, please.” (aka Four)

by Marian Bartolome

The tale of a postcard-perfect town and a four-time encounter with a memorable stranger. Sort of like "Before Sunrise"...but in reverse.
